Do you have a hippie soul? Are you drawn to artsy, unconventional, meaningful design?
If you dance to a funky free spirited drum beat then you are going to love SCRAP HIPPIE.
My name is Nell and I create mixed-media collage fashion, jewelry and home adornments with the intention to make your journey through this wondrous life even more magical. Radiating positive energy, spreading feelings of peace, love, joy and boundless possibilities through design are my main goals.
Colorful juxtapositions, abstract compositions, esoteric concepts and everything from earthy linens to the wildest novelty print scraps get to be in the mix. I have also been known to add little surprise elements here and there to my pieces such as hand-stitching, inspiring text, vintage papers, found objects and paint. The authentic look of handmade is something I aspire to. Raw edges, tatters and imperfect stitching give my work a certain flawed beauty.
Waste is not a part of my vocabulary. Upcycling thrifted goodies is something that fascinates me. Artcycledwear™ is an exclusive line of transformed clothing that was born out of my desire to contribute to the sustainability of Mother Earth.
Oh, and guess what else? Every item is ONE-OF-A-KIND.
SCRAP HIPPIE embraces three distinct styles:
LOVE & ENLIGHTENMENT
This style is for when you're feeling that rustic yet soft and romantic vibe. I call it wabi-shabby chic -- a wabi-sabi and shabby chic combo.
POWER & PROSPERITY
Bold colors, blingy embellishments and inspiring text give you a sense of refreshing renewal, empowerment and infinite potential.
This collection is all about having fun with life! Pictorial patchwork with a quirky flavor. It's a fun style filled with playfulness and joy.
STORY OF A FELLOW FREE SPIRIT
My road to handcrafting began when I was twelve years old in the Bronx, New York when my Grandma Bessie, who was a gifted seamstress, introduced me to sewing. Her black antique Singer sewing machine fascinated me and she patiently taught me how to measure, cut and stitch using all kinds of fabric. She also taught me how to crochet and embroider. Grandma not only instilled within my young psyche an adoration for making things, she also made sure I realized the importance of being good person.
I wanted to expand my crafting horizons so I began a challenging, yet enchanting journey into learning mixed-media art and graphic design. A passion for collage, a love of natural fiber remnants and an obsession with color, form and textural imperfections produces my overall design style which I describe as chaotic harmony.
I devote many faithful hours to producing unique pieces for all of the adventurous gypsy souls out there and I adore every minute of what I do.
My smoke free home studio is located on the beautiful South Shore of Long Island in the state of New York.
Be free! Enjoy life!
